On any given moment when I realize that Norton has thrown up its alert to renew my subscription, I immediately begin weighing the pros and cons of an infected OS system and it starts to sound like a trade off.
Malware: Up 15% Month September 2009
Reported growth of Malware for the month of September 2009 is astonishing. The increased number of infected computers has risen 15% in a single month? Why is this epidemic of disease allowed to continue without attention from those deriving revenue online? To me, there needs to be a collective effort made to fight this epidemic. Major online players deriving top shares of Internet market share should design and fund an independent source of supergeek proportion and enlist these individuals with both the task and resourced to halt those responsible. At the very least, more action must be taken against those who knowingly or not continue spreading infectious apps online. More important to me, why doesn't Google, Microsoft, ICANN and other type groups recognize the need for this same collective action and fund it?
Thanks due Lance Whitney for his blog post reporting this rampant spread of disease in the virtual world. I suppose those deriving the most income and revenues stand to benefit the most if users suffer and resort to new purchases of computer systems, new laptops, software, etc. In essence, it seems no one gives a damn for the average pc user operating system health. The exception being Norton! Those b@stards seem overly concerned with the health of my machines and more importantly with the expiration date of my subscription. One thing Norton deserves credit is the alerts and message notification popups that are configured to I suppose annoy a user so much they opt to renew.
